  • Yes. If your home is a listed building, sits within a conservation area, or is subject to restrictive covenants, you may need to apply for planning permission regardless of the pool size. Indoor pools or pool enclosures are also more likely to require permission as they involve constructing or extending a building. If in any doubt, we strongly recommend confirming with your local planning authority before work begins — the consequences of not doing so can be costly.

  • For most uncovered, unheated outdoor pools, building regulations approval isn't required. However, if you're installing a heated pool, an enclosure, or any associated electrical or drainage work — which all pools will have — those elements must meet the relevant standards. All electrical installations must be carried out by a qualified electrician and comply with Part P of the Building Regulations.

  • Adding a swimming pool does not typically affect your council tax band. Council tax is assessed on the overall value of your property, and the Valuation Office Agency would need to carry out a formal reassessment for your band to change. In practice, this rarely happens as a direct result of pool installation alone.

  • There is no specific national law in England requiring domestic swimming pools to be fenced, but it is very strongly recommended — particularly where young children or pets are present.   • For a one-piece composite pool installed by Starline Install, the process from groundworks to first swim typically takes three to five weeks in total. The pool shell itself arrives fully manufactured and is craned into position — a process that usually takes half a day. After that, we complete the plumbing, electrical connections, and plant room before commissioning and handover. Compare that to a traditional concrete pool, which can take three to six months to build on-site.

  • We carry out a thorough site visit to assess access for delivery vehicles and craning equipment, ground conditions and drainage, the most suitable location for the pool and plant room, and any site-specific factors that could affect the installation. This ensures your quote is accurate and that there are no unexpected complications once work begins. There's no charge for the site visit.

  • Considerably less disruptive than most people expect — particularly compared to a concrete pool build. The groundworks phase involves excavation, which means some disruption to your garden, but because the pool arrives as a single finished unit, there's no extended period of on-site construction. Most of our customers are surprised by how quickly the process moves and how tidy we leave the site at each stage.

  • Most installations require vehicle and crane access along the side of the property or through a gate. We assess this as part of the site survey and will identify any access challenges early. In cases where standard access isn't possible, we use specialist equipment to crane the pool into position — this is factored into your quote if required. We've successfully installed pools in some very tight spaces, and access challenges rarely prevent a project from going ahead.
